Dish Network has unveiled plans to deploy a mobile and satellite network based on LTE. The US pay-TV operator said in a filing with the Federal Communications Commission that the network should offer commercial services by 2014.

Dish then could sell the service to other carriers or directly to customers, but the company’s full plans aren’t yet apparent. Dish this year bought satellite company DBSD North America and parts of TerreStar, paving the way towards introducing the new service. The company is seeking permission from the FCC to offer devices that can receive a satellite signal, as well as terrestrial-only handsets.
