Israel’s IAI unveils low-cost mainstream satellite

Israeli satellite builder Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has showcased a small but fully advanced geostationary satellite design.
IAI used the 72nd International Aeronautical Congress in Dubai to unveil what it calls its Mini Communications Satellite (MCS) that would have a mass of around 600-700 kgs and yet carry an advanced communications payload. Moreover, it would cost only around $100 million including its launch. This is significantly less than its more usual 5-tonne geostationary rivals.
The proposed craft is capable of hosting Ku or Ka-band services.
The core design of the satellite is based on work being done by IAI for Israel’s government (and called Dror-1).
