From David Del Valle in Madrid
Mediaset Spain will pay a huge bill for La Liga, Champions and Europa League rights if its streaming service Mitele Plus proves to be a success.
According to El Economista, Mediaset will have to pay Movistar over €60 million if its new OTT service captures 270,000 subscribers. The minimum payment will be €20 million per season.
Specifically, for La Liga the minimum cost is €14.6 million if Mitele does not manage to surpass 91,000 subscribers. If that figure is tripled the cost will be €43 million. For the Champions the minimum cost is €5.58 million if over 46,000 subscribers are not reached. From 125,000 subscribers, the cost is €15 million.
