Elba to star in Quibi stunt show
June 14, 2019
Quibi, the soon-to-launch streaming platform offering short-form content, has signed up Idris Elba to star in a car stunt show.
The series, entitled Elba vs Block, will see Elba compete in a series of stunt challenges against renowned rally driver Ken Block. As a teaser of what viewers can expect, the challenges have names such as ‘car tightrope’, ‘flaming obstacle course’ and ‘wall of death’.
“Ken is my driving hero. I’ve never worked with a driver as skilled as him, so I’m a little intimidated by his talent,’ said Elba. ‘I love challenges, I love speed and I’m a wheel man, so let’s see how this plays out.”
Quibi, founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg, is set to launch in 2020. The platform will target mobile viewers with all content being 10 minutes or less. Hollywood director Steven Spielberg is also creating a show for the service.
