Netflix’s CEO Reed Hastings’ pay packet last year topped $36 million (€32.1m), and some 48 per cent up on his 2018 compensation ($24.4 millions).
Hastings’ bottom line salary is a mere $700,000, but the overall package is massively benefitted by share options which were worth a $35.3 million last year.
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos also saw a nice increase, up 32 per cent to $29.6 million. However, in a reversal of how the core salaries were structured, Sarandos pocketed a much more lucrative base salary, which was $12 million.
However, good as their overall packages are, they pale in comparison with some of their rival broadcasters. For example, Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav last year pocketed – with his stock options – $129.5 million for 2018. Disney boss Bob Iger lagged with an overall bundle worth $65.6 million.
