Samsung is publicising (with giant billboards) that it will be showcasing a QLED 8K displays at the upcoming Berlin IFA technology show. The posters say “Prepare to be amazed at IFA”.

This will be the first occasion for European visitors to see the display. However, Samsung showcased its Q9S 8K (85”) model at CES in January, and again at the recent Advanced Display conference which it sponsored in June. It is not yet clear whether Samsung will stick to a more affordable 65” version for manufacture, as most experts anticipate a very high price tag for an 85” model.

The model seen by visitors to CES also built-in AI technology which used proprietary algorithms to upscale incoming content with considerable success. At CES Samsung showed the Q9S on a ‘side by side’ basis with 8K and 4K resolution being displayed simultaneously.

And 8K content is slowly becoming available. Japanese public broadcaster NHK is producing considerable 8K content in readiness for its official launch of an 8K service on December 1st. An Italian producer, Magnitudo Films, will show its latest production, ‘Bernini’, captured in 8K, at MIPCOM in October.
