YouTube has signed a multi-year agreement with the Universal Music Group, amid plans to expand its subscription businesses. Universal Music said the deal would provide its artists more flexibility and pay, and strengthen YouTube’s commitment to managing music rights.
YouTube also reached a deal with Warner Music Group in May in advance of its new paid music service that is scheduled to go live in March 2018 and take on the likes of Spotify and Apple Music.
The Universal Music Group is home to global artists including Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Metallica, Coldplay, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift and Jay-Z among others.
