The decision to adopt the DVB digital television standard in Colombia has been suspended. There are local reports of “irregularities” over the decision-making process which ended up with DVB being selected.

According to the El Espectador newspaper, the Colombian State Council has accepted the request to cancel the DVB decision pending a decision on whether adoption procedures – taken by the National TV Commission – were breached.

One of the local grumbles is that Europe has not delivered the economic support it promised should DVB be adopted.

Either way, the delay re-opens the doors for the Japanese/Korean ISDB system, or the USA’s ATSC technology, to be adopted. Both have seen considerable success in being adopted by Colombia’s neighbours.
