A worker at LG Display, at its Paju, South Korea, factory lost his life in an industrial accident at the site last week. Local reports say that all LCD production output has ceased at the facility, with inspectors and officials making an investigation into the matter.

South Korean news sources say that the plant closure will immediately start affecting output of 49” and 55” panels for use in high-end TV sets. LG Display normally turn out about 715,000 square metres of panels per month, almost 6 percent of the world demand.

The stoppage has come at the period of maximum demand for TV display panels as manufacturers build up for the autumn and pre-Christmas seasons when there’s maximum demand.

LG Display, in a statement, said Korean Labour Ministry had conclude its investigation into the death and that it hoped to resume its production no later than next week. “Although it is inevitable to face hurdles in production due to a week of suspension, we will make an effort to minimise fallout,” the company said.
