Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), which oversees the country’s transition from analogue to digital TV transmission, says that the nation will need some 30 million set-top boxes in order to complete the transition.

Mallam Is’haq Modibo Kawu, the Director General of NBC, said the Commission had already spent $26 million to buy 850,000 set-top boxes in order to kick-start the process.

Certain analogue channels had already been switched to digital, notably in the federal capital of Abuja.

Boxes are being supplied two lead manufacturers: Gospell Technology Ltd and SMK Skyrun.
