From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris

France Télévisions, the French PSB and exclusive rights holder for the rugby Six Nations Championship until 2029, will sublicense part of the rights of the 2026 edition of the men’s tournament to TF1, owing to “strong budgetary constraints”.

Following an agreement concluded with the commercial group, France Télévisions is sublicensing nine of the 15 matches, most of which will take place during the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

France Télévisions will broadcast the opening and closing matches of the competition featuring the French national team. TF1’s schedule in full will include Wales against France on February 15th and Scotland against France on March 17th, along with England vs Wales, Ireland vs Italy, Scotland vs England, England vs Ireland, Wales vs Scotland and Ireland vs Scotland.

France Télévisions had renewed the rights to the competition in June 2025 for over €30 million per season, but it is faced with an expected €65.3 million decrease in state funding this year, within a lower ad market. France Télévisions must achieve €140 million savings after its board of directors adopted a balanced budget in December 2025.

TF1 also holds the broadcasting rights for the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup through an agreement with World Rugby.
