Barnes joining Channel 4’s Dispatches Investigations Unit

December 3, 2025

Sophie Barnes will join the four strong Dispatches Investigations Unit as a Senior Journalist. The Channel 4 unit works alongside indies to deliver agenda setting investigations for Dispatches, Untold and the wider current affairs output. The team have been behind impactful programmes including Russell Brand: In Plain Sight and last year’s The King, The Prince & Their Secret Millions.

Before joining Channel 4, Barnes was Investigations Correspondent at The Telegraph where she was part of the team that revealed allegations against Sir Philip Green in 2019 and complaints against former MasterChef host Gregg Wallace in 2024. Sophie’s investigations also exposed the Government’s fatally lax approach to care homes during the pandemic; she went undercover to reveal homeopaths telling mothers not to vaccinate their children against life-threatening diseases and helped uncover a secret database of child abuse allegations within the Jehovah’s Witness organisation.

Her previous roles also include Deputy News Editor at Inside Housing, where she wrote about the dangers of flammable cladding both before and after the Grenfell Tower fire and as a Reporter at Health Service Journal.

Channel 4 Dispatches Investigations Editor, Al Jackson, commented: “We’re delighted Sophie is joining the unit. She brings with her an impressive track record of high-powered scoops.  At a time when investigative journalism is under ever more scrutiny her hiring again cements Channel 4’s commitment to it.”

Barnes added: “I’m excited to join Channel 4’s Dispatches team. From exposing the shocking allegations against Russell Brand to shining a light on the opaque world of the royal family’s finances – Dispatches delivers fearless and important investigations that set the agenda. It will be an honour to contribute to the team’s vital work.”

Barnes will join Channel 4 in the new year.
