Why did The Bear not win an Emmy this year?

October 21, 2025

In 2024, The Bear broke records when it scored the most Emmys for its category. In 2025, however, it didn’t win a single one.

Why Was The Bear such a Hit with Viewers?

The Bear television show was such a hit because of its tension and realistic portrayal of a kitchen environment. Using fast-paced cinematography, it really helped to showcase the high-stakes moments that small restaurant owners experience. It’s not surprising to see that it was so successful, either, especially when you look at other successful television shows like Chef’s Table.

This Emmy-nominated show is about redefining gourmet food and was a hit for Netflix. You also have Gastropod, a podcast that looks at food through a lens of both science and history, with co-hosts Nicola Twilley and Cynthia Graber.

Cooking-themed games are also on the rise, both in the mainstream gaming market and in iGaming, with online casino titles like Slingo Slinguini proving to be very popular. Titles like this take inspiration from linguine, a type of pasta, but with a fun and unique presentation. Graphics feature tomatoes, sauce, meatballs, and mushrooms, but with a format that combines slots and bingo. Even crosswords often feature a cooking category, showing how widespread our love for food is, and how The Bear had a solid foundation to work from, with a target audience that was ready for new content.

Why Did The Bear Not Win An Emmy this Year?

The Bear broke a record in 2024, taking home a total of 11 for the second series of the show. With that said, in 2025, the show did not win a single one. This doesn’t mean that the show is not a success, as if you look at other shows that have won 10 Emmys or more, including Chernobyl and The Queen’s Gambit, you’ll notice that they did not return to our screens, and therefore couldn’t experience the drop in wins.

The Crown did win 11 Emmys out of 24 in 2021, but when Netflix returned in 2023 to the Emmys, the show only got six nominations and didn’t win a single Emmy. Following this trend, it’s easy to see that other shows have followed a similar pattern, and that The Bear is also navigating uncharted territory without being a very serious and intense television show that ran for more than one season.

Even though The Bear did not win an Emmy this year, numbers show that the show is a huge success. Viewership is still strong, even four seasons in.

Season 4 debuted to 917 million minutes watched in the first five days of streaming; people not only tuned in, but they did so the second it was launched on the platform. As the numbers are still very much positive for the show, it would not be surprising to see even bigger viewership for the fifth season, which has been confirmed and set to be released in 2026.
