As Disney+ celebrates its fifth birthday this March, the streaming service has unveiled a lineup of titles set to premiere in the UK and Ireland in 2025.
The Disney+ service went live in the UK on March 24th 2020 – somewhat fortunately just as homes around the around the nation were being ordered to stay at home as the Covid-19 pandemic went global. Early, exclusive titles such as Season 1 of Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian and Marvel’s WandaVision proved a hit with audiences and critics alike, whilst Disney was able to launch its platform with a huge catalogue of beloved content from its 90 year+ archive. Around 7.6 million UK households currently subscribe to the service (according to Statista), whilst the global figure stands at around 153.6 million.
New titles coming to the service later this year include FX’s highly anticipated Alien spin-off series Alien: Earth, directed by Noah Hawley; the new limited series FX’s Dying for Sex (pictured) starring Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate; star-studded UK Original The Stolen Girl – a five-part psychological drama starring Denise Gough, Holliday Grainger and Ambika Mod’ alongside Lucasfilm’s Andor season 2 returning for its long-awaited conclusion on April 23rd; Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, which focuses on the events surrounding the tragic killing of innocent Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, after he is mistaken for a terrorist; and Searchlight Pictures’ Award-winning A Real Pain starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin. Viewers can also look forward to new seasons of FX’s The Bear, Only Murders in the Building and the latest season of The Simpsons (now streaming exclusively on Disney+ in the UK).
Disney+ also welcomes the return of the sisterhood with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives swinging back onto the platform with a second season on May 15th. Further to this, widely anticipated series from National Geographic include Limitless with Chris Hemsworth, Underdogs, Ocean with David Attenborough and Tucci in Italy.
Further UK unscripted Originals include: Sneaker Wars: Adidas vs. Puma the three-part documentary series from David Beckham’s Studio 99 that dives deep into the fierce, decades-long rivalry between two global sportswear giants, born from a family feud; An untitled Freddie Flintoff Original documentary film (1×90’) from award-winning director John Dower will cover the former international cricketer and broadcast presenter’s recovery and career to date; And Caroline (w/t), a documentary celebrating the life and career of one of the UK’s most popular TV presenters Caroline Flack.
In 2025, Disney+ has already welcomed Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man and Marvel Television’s all-new series Daredevil: Born Again, which stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. Dominique Williams returns as genius inventor Riri Williams in Marvel Television’s Ironheart — streaming on Disney+ beginning in June, the original live-action series is set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Wonder Man starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Sir Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery debuts later this year.
Also joining the 2025 slate are many fan-favourite series, including Percy Jackson and The Olympians season 2, a new season of animated hit Phineas and Ferb from Disney Branded Television, and Will Trent season 3.
The newest instalment in National Geographic’s Emmy-winning Secrets of franchise, Secrets of the Penguins, takes viewers of all ages to the farthest corners of the world to witness penguin behaviours captured on film for the first time. Additionally, Underdogs (2025), executive produced and narrated by Ryan Reynolds, highlights the unsung heroes, the oddballs, the weirdos, and the ugliest (or perhaps they’re just misunderstood?) animals in the natural world.
Disney+ is available from £4.99 per month in the UK.
