BBC Studios has confirmed its first international licence for gameshow format In With A Shout to W9, France. Created by Expectation and produced locally by BBC Studios Productions France, the French adaptation will be entitled Video Quiz and is confirmed to be hosted by actor Issa Doumbia (Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom). The primetime series is due to air this autumn.

In With A Shout has three uniquely challenging rounds, a variable money ladder and ten different categories displayed on individual screens. Contestants must correctly identify the images for a chance to increase their prize pot. However, answer the question wrong, and they watch their winnings drop. With only four seconds on the clock to answer, players must take on the TVs and act fast to be in with a shout.

Across the six weeks of In With A Shout Series One in the UK, it was the highest-rated new game show of the year in 2023. Its Saturday 7pm slot was up +20 per cent year-on-year for volume and the series reached 3.5 million viewers every week. The second series of In With A Shout in the UK also proved a huge hit with two shows in the series obtaining the highest Saturday night prime-time audience of any ITV show.

The French celebrity series – produced brilliantly by BBC Studios for W9 – proved two further things, firstly this format can travel widely around the globe. And secondly, supposedly cool, unflappable Gallic celebrities are just as good at blurting out laughably wrong answers in a flap.”
