Appear releases latency reduction capabilities
September 13, 2024
Appear, a specialist in media processing and delivery technology, has announced a significant update to its HEVC and AVC compression solutions at IBC 2024, further solidifying its market leadership in low-latency media transmission. Through its X Platform, Appear can now deliver up to a 73 per cent improvement in latency performance without compromising picture quality.
These advancements in latency reduction extend Appear’s compression suite, which powers live content from ground-to-ground and cloud-to-ground production infrastructures. The enhanced performance of HEVC and AVC compression, now with even lower latency, re-enforces Appear’s position as the industry’s leading solution for broadcasters and live event producers demanding reliability, flexibility, speed, and scalability.
Andy Rayner, CTO of Appear, commented: “The unparalleled performance of Appear’s HEVC and AVC compression has made it the go-to solution for many of the world’s largest broadcasters. These new advancements, which introduce even lower latency, underscore our commitment to maintaining our market leadership. Our technology provides the highest quality video at the lowest latency possible, delivered on the most mature and dependable platform.”
These capabilities are already proven in the field, supporting global broadcasters in live events with the highest standards for compression and transmission. The new low latencies will enable faster, more efficient workflows, reinforcing Appear’s position as the preferred partner for live broadcast and remote production.
Rayner concluded: “Our evolving temporal compression capabilities complement our JPEG XS solutions available in TR-07 and TR-08 formats. With full interoperability, all of these capabilities integrate seamlessly with Appear’s accelerated SRT technology, providing a complete toolkit for media transport with best-in-class protection and resilience.”
