An Open Broadcast Systems decoder, plus Croatian live sports production house MSTV and a Kymeta terminal, helped deliver live coverage of a UEFA football match from the Faroe Islands using OneWeb’s satellites to viewers “around the world”.
The game was a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying game, which the Islanders lost against Albania on June 20th.
Open Broadcast says the event was “A huge technical achievement proving LEO satellites can deliver high quality sports transmissions at comparable bitrates to satellite vehicles.”
London-based Open Broadcast already has experience of using satellites for connectivity and a recent partnership announcement with MSTV was created “to develop new products and solutions around innovative IP technologies, such as Starlink, 5G and cloud distribution.”
Kieran Kunhya, Founder and CEO of Open Broadcast Systems, added: “MSTV is in a new country every week, and the level of iteration on its broadcasts is incredible. Every week there is a new improvement to the workflow to meet the needs of broadcasters. I have been astounded by MSTV’s speed of innovation”.
