Nostalgia fuels co-viewing trend on HappyKids
June 12, 2023

HappyKids, the free, ad-supported streaming platform for children, has reported a surge in viewership driven by nostalgia as parents introduce their kids to beloved shows from their own childhoods. This trend has also led to a significant increase in co-viewing, where parents and children watch content together, making it an important opportunity for advertisers.
HappyKids has seen triple-digit growth in nostalgic programming during the pandemic across the board with a focus on a few key demographics, such as early learning preschool, live-action series in both education and entertainment, family movies, and classic/nostalgic series.
Some of the most popular nostalgic programming on HappyKids include Garfield, Teletubbies, My Little Pony, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Maggie & the Ferocious Beast, Bobby’s World, Bob the Builder, Sesame Street, Transformers, GI Joe, Galaxy High School, King Arthur the Knight of Justice and Jem & the Holograms.
“The co-viewing trend has had a profound impact on nostalgic content on HappyKids. Over 65 per cent of kids surveyed stated that they co-view content on the platform, with parents also participating in the experience,” said Vikrant Mathur, co-founder of HappyKids. “And, as the trend towards co-viewing continues to grow, we’ll continue to be at the forefront of this movement, providing families with a unique and memorable viewing experience that they will cherish for years to come.”
According to a kids insight study conducted in March, 88 per cent of HappyKids parents introduce their kids to shows they watched when they were younger.
