Data: Netflix’s The Watcher causes spike in security camera sales
October 20, 2022
Data from B&Q, the DIY and home improvement retail company, has revealed that sales for home security cameras have increased massively following the launch of thriller series The Watcher.
The series, which premiered on Netflix on October 13th, has inspired over 30,000 Brits to search online for security cameras, with home experts from B&Q saying there has been a 1,000 per cent spike in purchases the weekend following the launch compared with the weekend before, as searches on-site also increased by 88 per cent.
The Watcher, which shot to #1 of the Netflix Top 10 upon release, is based on a true story and follows a young family who moves into a new home in the suburbs where they are being watched by an unknown stranger.
Viewers have reportedly described the series as ‘gripping, scary and terrifying’ with some even being too scared to sleep, which could explain the sudden interest in home security.
