Telefónica-DAZN deal under scrutiny

Spain’s competition regulator the Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has urged Telefónica to modify “certain aspects” of its agreement with streaming service DAZN to comply with competition conditions imposed in April 2015 to avoid an abuse of a dominant market position.
In particular, the deal would be breaking some commitments relating to TV rights to Formula 1 for the seasons 2021, 2022 and 2023.
The CNMC has requested Telefónica to make the necessary adjustments, clarifying whether the service is part of the Fusión convergent package .
Telefónica is obliged by law to share premium content and channels to third parties at reasonable prices.
