Malaysia’s Astro pay-TV operation is looking to secure up to 15 currently stand-alone OTT platforms over the next year or two and will announce additions to its portfolio of offerings in May.
Henry Tan, Astro’s CEO, has confirmed that he saw five or six of the OTT platforms would likely roll out this year, and another five or six in 2022.
Tan was speaking at the APOS 2021 event, and said that the streaming tide was turning in favour of broadcast aggregators.
“We provide our customers with choice, greater convenience, single bill, and in the future universal search that will make things a lot easier. Most of all, we provide customers with better value. Bundling and aggregation is our biggest strength,” Tan said, although he admitted that 2021 was a year of reorganisation and consolidating.
