From Branislav Pekic in Rome
Italian media group Cairo Communication has reached an agreement with DAZN to host two pay-TV channels of the OTT broadcaster on its national DTT multiplex.
According to Italian daily Milano Finanza, the distribution agreement is worth €3 million per year and will enable DAZN to ensure backup for its streaming services.
The deal comes days after DAZN acquired the 2021-2024 TV rights for Italy’s Serie A.
So far, DAZN has been distributing its content in Italy via the web, through the DAZN app for smartphones, tablets and smart TVs and via the DAZN1 channel on rival Sky Italia.
Cairo Communication operates the Cairo Due DTT multiplex that covers 94 per cent of the Italian population and owns the La7 and La7d TV channels, with the former being the sixth most watched TV channel for the third year running.
The media group ended 2020 with revenues of €1.04 billion and a net profit of €16.5 million.
