Italian broadcasting group Mediaset has acquired the streaming rights for 104 matches from the UEFA Champions League during the 2021-2024 seasons.
According to Italian news agency Radicor, Sky Italia and Mediaset have snatched up the most important Italian TV rights packages for Europe’s premier football competition.
Besides the streaming rights, Mediaset also obtained the exclusive rights for the best match on Tuesday (16 matches) and the final for its flagship terrestrial channel Canale 5.
Mediaset has yet to decide on which online platform to air the matches – Infinity or Mediaset Play.
The broadcaster is estimated to have paid €40-45 million for the free-to-air and streaming rights.
For its part, current rights holder Sky Italia retained the rights for a total of 121 matches per year.
Last month, Amazon secured the TV rights for the best matches on Wednesday (a total of 16) and the European Super Cup for its Prime Video service for an estimated €80 million.
