Spain: DAZN refuses to air La Liga
July 18, 2019
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Telefónica’s “tough” financial conditions for third parties to acquire La Liga rights have ultimately driven streaming service DAZN to refuse to broadcast La Liga and the Champions League in Spain this year.
Both parties have been negotiating for several months but agreement has not been possible because of the high price imposed by Telefónica and the impossibility of airing the matches on HD, according to DAZN sources.
Telefónica has reacted saying that the company has complied with the CNMC rules and has given DAZN full information about the TV rights.
