Fransat drops Roland-Garros 4K HDR
June 5, 2019
From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
Eultesat’s DTH offering Fransat is stopping Roland-Garros 4K HDR transmissions and will broadcast the end of the French tennis open in the 4K SDR standard.
The company, which has been retransmitting France Télévisions’ event on the France TV Sports UHD 4K channel, explained that too many 4K TV sets are incompatible with the HDR format. Many viewers had received no image or complained about dull colours and a lack of contrast.
“This new format is an innovation for TV sets sold in 2018 and 2019, but it isn’t available to all TV sets,” said Fransat.
