SiriusXM to lose Stern, but adds Cher

‘Shock jock’ radio broadcaster Howard Stern says he is going to retire from pay-radio operator SiriusXM when his contract concludes next year.
Stern is a hugely popular shock jock and helped SiriusXM grow dramatically when he joined in 2006, and generated much media buzz over the cash that he has reportedly been earning – at some $80 million a year which in fairness includes his production and staffing costs. His SiriusXM contact was renewed in 2015 for a further 5 years.
Stern now says he is determined to get out of radio, where he has been a major voice for some 35 years. Market rumours suggest that he might end up at Netflix, or Apple, but in truth only he knows just at the moment.
Meanwhile, SiriusXM has announced it will carry a dedicated Cher radio channel, which launched April 17th but for just 2 weeks until May 1st.
