Sony closing Crackle LatAm
January 21, 2019
Sony Pictures Television is closing Crackle Latin America as of April 30th. The SVoD service has some 400,000 subscribers across 17 countries, but Sony has deemed that the business isn’t economically viable.
The streaming app first launched in April 2012 as a free, ad-supported service – akin to its US counterpart – before changing to a subscription model in 2016.
“After much consideration, we have decided that Crackle Latin America is not sustainable in the present highly competitive local environment,” Keith Le Goy, Sony Pictures’ president of worldwide TV distribution, said in a note to staff, a copy of which was obtained by Variety.
