Netflix: “Over 45m watched Bird Box”

Netflix has revealed that over 45 million “accounts” watched its Bird Box movie in the first week of release – a new record.
The streaming giant, generally renowned for being notoriously secretive regarding viewing figures, said in a tweet that “45,037,125 Netflix accounts have already watched Bird Box — best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film!”.
As there is no other real Netflix data to compare the figure to, it’s difficult to gauge quite how successful the number is, other than to accept Netflix’s claim that the first week’s audience numbers is indeed a record.
Netflix launched the movie, exclusive to its service, on December 21st.
The horror movie, starring Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich among an all-star cast, has been met by a somewhat mixed response from critics, but has been a viral sensation since its release – generating plenty of chatter across social media and inspiring a plethora of memes.
