Jordan allows rival to Jordan TV

Al Mamlaka (the Kingdom), a news-based TV station from Jordan, will start transmissions on July 16th. Its website will also start on the same day.
The channel is based at the King Hussein Business Park, in Amman, and is operating under a royal decree issued two years ago. The Jordanian government has guaranteed two years of funding for the news channel (Jordanian Dinars 10 million).
The launch means that a proposed third channels from the country’s public broadcaster, Jordan Radio & TV Corp (JRTVC) will not now go ahead. Al Mamlaka will be wholly independent.
A statement from Al Mamlaka said Jordanians are expected to witness an “advanced and qualitative leap with more freedom and professionalism”, in comparison with other Jordanian broadcasters.
