Netflix market value (briefly) surpasses Disney
May 25, 2018
On the heels of yesterday’s news that Netflix had this week overtaken Comcast in terms of market value, the streaming giant also briefly surpassed Disney.
Shares in Netflix increased by more than 2 per cent in mid-afternoon trading on May 24th, pushing the firm’s market value to more than $153 billion (€130.5bn).
The ascent briefly eclipsed The Walt Disney Company, which has been rattled by Netflix’s success in recent years at luring US households from cable TV.
Netflix shares subsequently fell back, closing the day up 1.3 per cent. Disney and Comcast shares both slipped about 0.8 per cent, pushing their market values to about $152 billion and $143 billion respectively.
