Mediapro plans eSport events in the UK

From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spanish media company Mediapro is planning to launch eSports events in the UK alongside a local partner, still yet to be finalised.
Gfinity is likely to play a role in the business. The company, owner of the Professional Videogames League (Liga de Videojuegos Profesional LVP), is also in the midst of launching eSports events in Latin America and Portugal.
The Vice President and co-founder of LVP, Sergi Mesonero, is in London to kickstart the project. “We do not want to create LVP in the UK, but to organise tournaments there”, he said, speaking to Palco23.
Mediapro wants to replicate the Latin America model where Mediapro has launched the platform ArenaGG and is also launching specific eSports events in Buenos Aires and México DF.
Mesonero said that the second expansion area is Europe by being so close and “similar to the Spanish market”. In Portugal, the company is already present thanks to an alliance with Liga PlayStation.
In 2017, Mediapro’s eSports events had 17.4 million viewers, of which 40 per cent were in Latin America.
