From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
French police have arrested the individual – reportedly a 16-year-old schoolboy – behind illegal TV streaming website and mobile app Artv.Watch.
The site allowed users to watch 176 channels – many of them subscription channels – for free. This included content from Canal+, France Télévisions, TF1, M6, Paramount, Disney and Fox as well as various sport channels. The app had hundreds of thousands of users in France, as well as abroad as it also featured English and Japanese channels.
On Google Play Store, the app was downloaded around 800,000 times.
According to Alpa, the association that fights against audiovisual piracy, Canal+ and M6 are among channels that have already filed a lawsuit.
