Digital UK seeks to expand Freeview TV guide
October 18, 2016
Digital UK has published a consultation on proposals to expand the Freeview TV guide and update its policy for allocating channel numbers (LCNs).
The proposals are designed to:
– Ensure channel genres have the capacity to accommodate new services, following strong demand from broadcasters
– Simplify Digital UK’s LCN policy and provide greater flexibility for channel providers
– Provide additional consumer protection measures to further minimise risks around minors viewing inappropriate content
Jonathan Thompson, Chief Executive of Digital UK, said: ‘The last year has seen increasing demand for channel numbers on Freeview, with new services joining us on regular basis. We are now consulting on proposals to prepare the platform for future and make it even easier for channel providers to continue bringing viewers the best subscription-free TV.’
