July 11th saw the opening bouts of Japan’s six grand Sumo tournaments. Japanese public broadcaster NHK is covering the bouts in detail and NHK World TV is now broadcasting a daily round-up of the most rousing matches of the day.
The championship runs from July 11th – 25th, and NHK will screen its show three times during each 24-hour period.
NHK says this is a sensational time for Sumo, with a yokozuna (grand champion) chasing a record and a collection of ozeki (champion) wrestlers closing in on the top rank. NHK WORLD TV extends the excitement to viewers across the globe with this new show.
