Eutelsat’s co-located 8 West B satellite, which works alongside Nilesat’s pair of craft in the 7/8 deg West neighbourhood, is now up and earning its keep. Some 210 channels were seamlessly switched over on the night of September 30th from two older satellites at the location.
Launched on August 20th by an Ariane rocket from French Guiana, the 8WB satellite is now broadcasting to an estimated 52 million people in the Middle East and North Africa.
The two older satellites it replaced are being moved. Eutelsat 8 West A is going to 12.5 degrees West. Eutelsat 8 West C is travelling to 33 degrees East.
