YouTube Gaming goes live
August 26, 2015
YouTube has launched its spin-off gaming platform in the UK and the US.
Branded “YouTube Gaming”, the dedicated app and website focuses exclusively on gaming content, with a greater emphasis on live steams.
Gaming videos are already a major draw for YouTube, wiith site visitors spending billions of hours watching them every month. YouTube’s most-followed star, known as PewDiePie, is famed for his gaming uploads with commentary, whilst channels dedicated to construction game Minecraft regularly fill multiple positions in YouTube’s “most watched” charts.
“We wanted to create a one-stop shop for all gaming content,” YouTube’s head of gaming Ryan Wyatt told the BBC. “At the moment there is a fragmented experience. People go to different places for live content, and YouTube for video on demand. We have amazing gamers that don’t live stream yet. Now they have that opportunity.”
