Claro’s Colombia operation is to start a DTH service in the country. Dataxis says Claro (itself backed by América Móvil) will start transmissions on the newly-launched Star One C4 satellite shortly. Star One C4 was launched on July 15th.
Claro already has a cable-based pay-TV service in Colombia, and the sources say the new DTH offering will be limited to rural areas.
“The new satellite reaffirms América Móvil’s commitment to invest so as to offer the best technology to the highest number of Colombians as possible and reach where no other reaches. In Colombia, it will strengthen the quality of services we provide our users, in companies and homes, and will contribute to the country’s competitiveness”, Claro Colombia’s President, Juan Carlos Archila, stated.
