Magine closes down in Spain

OTT TV provider Magine TV will close down its service in Spain next February, after one and a half years of Beta operations, on the grounds that it is not the right time for a commercial launch in Spain.
“Magine AB has decided to wait for a better moment to carry out a commercial launch in Spain”, said the company in a brief statement.
International media groups Chello Multicanal, Viacom Spain, Cosmopolitan and National Geographic Channel Spain were amongst the first to sign up for the Beta version of the Magine OTT service.
Magine is a subscription service that combines cloud-based live TV, catch-up, start-over and on-demand programming all in the same place and across all devices. It is not TV through a new device but a TV service that is cloud-based and DRM protected.
In Sweden, Magine hosts some of the world’s best known brands and channels such as Discovery, CNN International, BBC, Eurosport, National Geographic, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network as well as home national broadcasters SVT and TV4. In Germany, Magine TV has also a strong presence with a subscription model.
