India’s Times Television Network, part of the Bennett, Coleman & Co media business, is to launch three extra news channels. The licences were awarded by India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting last month.
The licenses were issued in the names of Times Now, although another seems to fall under the ET Now brand. India’s Television Post reports that it is not yet clear as to which languages the channels will be broadcast in.
These new licenses, plus others issued in November take the total number of licensed TV channels in India to 821. Of this number a huge 404 are news or current affairs channels.
