AsiaSat-8 is due to be launched on August 5th from the SpaceX facility at Cape Canaveral, Florida. It will be a late-night launch, often the most spectacular, at 1.25am Florida-time (and 1.25pm in the afternoon Hong Kong time).
AsiaSat-8 has been built by Space Systems/Loral and has 24 Ku-band transponders as well as a Ka-band payload. The satellite will be co-located with Asia-Sat-7, and has a design life of 15 years.
Its mission is to add extra broadcasting capacity over China, the Middle East and South-East Asia.
