Arabsat explains Abu Dhabi decision
July 1, 2014
By Chris Forrester
July 1st sees a batch of Abu Dhabi Media’s ‘channels’ cease transmission on Arabsat. Abu Dhabi’s move, as reported by advanced-television.com, is slightly less mysterious than hinted at by their own July 27th statement, which said: “viewers could continue watching the company’s channels on Nilesat”.
The clarification came June 30th from sources at Arabsat, who explained that the ‘channels’ were duplicated services and a legacy of the period when Abu Dhabi Media held the TV rights to the English Premier League soccer games (now held by Al Jazeera), and these ‘channels’ were redundant.
In all other respects all of Abu Dhabi Media’s channels remained a fixture on Arabsat.
