A senior Samsung executive, speaking in Indonesia, said that last year’s sales of large-format TV displays in Ultra-HD had resulted in the company quickly becoming market leader, and with a 33 per cent market share in the US.
Bernard Ang, Samsung Electronics Indonesia’s consumer electronics business director, showcased the company’s new 55”, 65” and 78” models to local press, and added that 2014 would see the global market for Ultra-HD models mushroom by 500 per cent during 2014. “Globally, we are number one in Ultra-HD, even though they were just launched mid-last year in the US,” he said. “We are very confident that we will do well in 2014.”
He stated that the market was anticipating 60 million Ultra-HD sets being sold by 2017. “This is tremendous, a very fast growth rate,” he added.
