DivX renewal with Sharp
January 8, 2014
Rovi and Sharp have agreed to renew a multi-year DivX licensing agreement. The new agreement enables Sharp to integrate DivX HEVC technology in its next-generation AQUOS TVs and AQUOS Blu-ray disc recorder product lines to support the high-quality streaming and playback of DivX HEVC HD 720p/1080p and UltraHD/4K HEVC content. In addition, the agreement includes use of Rovi’s adaptive streaming solution, DivX Plus Streaming.
“Sharp is a leader in the global consumer electronics device industry, and our new agreement is a significant milestone in our continued efforts to accelerate broad market adoption of HEVC,” said Kanaan Jemili, senior vice president, product management at Rovi. “Our continued collaboration with Sharp will enable us to gain even more momentum with driving HEVC and UltraHD/4K forward while also bringing cutting-edge features for consumers’ enjoyment of high-resolution content.”
