Australia’s communications minister has warned the public to be ready for the imminent switch-off of analogue TV. Malcolm Turnbull reminded viewers that free-to-air TV in analogue will cease on December 9th 2013.
“We are less than two months out from the end of the analog television era,” Malcolm Turnbull said. From December 10th, free-to-air TV will be broadcast in digital only. It’s time for viewers to make the switch to digital so that they will be able to watch free-to-air television after December 10th. More than 8.5 million households across Australia have converted to digital-only free-to-air television. If you are one of the only 5 per cent of households in Melbourne that hasn’t converted, there’s still time.”
The problem is that many of this remaining 5 per cent or so live in the major towns of Melbourne and Sydney, and may be in student accommodation, rented properties and other non-owner occupied homes.
