There’s a new operator of TV channels about to start supplying content into South African homes, and challenging the country’s MultiChoice/DStv and TopTV direct-to-home operators.
NuWeb Television says it will start streaming more than 150 TV channels and other on-demand OTT content in April, and will be using existing fixed line and broadband connected homes. NuWeb says broadband clients will be able to view HDTV signals provided the connection can support 1.4 Mbit/s.
Local news reports say that NuWeb will offer a wide portfolio of channels including sports, movies, series, news and music as well as the UK’s Channel 4.
