America’s Trinity buys into Madrid DTT market
March 20, 2013
From David Del Valle in Madrid
California-based Trinity Broadcasting Network is breaking into the Spanish local DTT market following the acquisition of four local DTT licences that cover parts of the Madrid region from the Spanish media group Libertad Digital, owned by the journalist Federico Jimenez Losantos.
The sale comes as when the local DTT market in Spain is going through tough times with the closure of many small local DTT stations. In Madrid, the local DTT map is being reshaped with many channels closing down or selling their DTT licences. The proliferation of DTT channels since 2005 with 38 DTT licences awarded has oversaturated the market with a deep advertising crisis that has reduced by half the TV ad pie over the last six years.
