BBC iPlayer app hits 1m downloads

BBC Worldwide has revealed that the launch of the iPlayer in 16 countries has seen the app downloaded one million times, and that global trials will now be expanded into the autumn. The trial app was launched in July 2011 and offers users outside of the UK “the best of the BBC’s content” for €49.99 a year.
The app, which offers a mix of new and archived content, originally launched in 11 European countries and then rolled out to the US and Canada.
BBC Worldwide’s Annual Review also revealed that digital revenues now account for the 12.8 per cent of the company’s total revenue – an increase of 58 per cent from 8.1 per cent on the previous year.
