BBC selling TV Centre
July 13, 2012
By Chris Forrester
The BBC has reportedly agreed to sell its iconic Television Centre production studios and facilities to developer Stanhope for £200 million. The core of the building is a doughnut shaped, Grade II listed (protected), concrete building. But the TV Centre sits in the edge of a hugely valuable 15 acre site.
Stanhope is reportedly considering developing the site for office, retail and entertainment space.
The TV Centre is increasingly empty and will have been completely vacated by next year. Staff (and productions) have been moved to newer facilities in Salford near Manchester, Cardiff in Wales, and to the BBC’s central London complex at New Broadcasting House.
