Lescure to re-visit Hadopi
May 24, 2012
Pierre Lescure, former head of Canal Plus, has been handed the task of re-examining France’s Hadopi anti-piracy law. New President Francois Hollande promised in the election to review the regime in light of civil rights concerns over powers to disconnect subscribers.
However the content industry seems relaxed with the former broadcaster’s appointment. Representatives of rights holders were quoted that they were not tied irrevocably to a system that ends in disconnection so long as strong protection for content owners, compulsion for ISPs to act, and a deterrent for subscribers remains.
