Mexican MSO Megacable reported 1.98 million pay-TV subscribers, up 15 per cent y-o-y, with 1.04 million of that number hooked up to the company’s digital services (53 percent of the total). Megacable enjoyed a dramatic shift towards digital during the year, with growth of 78 per cent.
Megacable started its digital roll-out a year ago in order to boost signal quality for both TV and audio channels. The plan now, says the company, is to add around 600,000 digital subscribers during 2012, helped by extra digital channels, VoD options and HDTV services.
During Q1 Megacable added 44,000 video subs, while its digital service brought in a net 72,000 new users. Megacable also reported 720.000 Internet clients and 501.000 telephony users.
